Arab Region | Property rights, Index of Economic Freedom (Arabic countries, 1995–2021)

The property rights indicator assesses the extent to which a country’s legal framework allows individuals to accumulate private property freely, secured by clear laws that the government enforces effectively. Relying on a mix of survey data and independent assessments, it provides a quantifiable measure of the degree to which a country’s laws protect private property rights and the extent to which those laws are respected. It also assesses the likelihood that private property will be expropriated by the state. The score 0-100 (best) for this indicator is derived by averaging score 0-100 (best)s for the following five sub-factors, all of which are weighted equally: 1) physical property rights, 2) intellectual property rights, 3) strength of investor protection, 4) risk of expropriation, and 5) quality of land administration
