# "Labor force, total" indicator
The **"Labor force, total"** indicator measures the **total number of people who are either employed or actively seeking employment**, including **both men and women of working age**.
It encompasses those currently working for pay or profit (**employed**) and those actively looking for work but are currently without a job (**unemployed**).
- **Employed**: those currently working for pay or profit.
- **Unemployed**: those actively looking for work but currently without a job.
