IDA & IBRD total | Public private partnerships investment in energy (current US$)

# Public Private Partnerships in Energy (current US$) This indicator measures investment commitments in energy infrastructure projects (such as electricity and natural gas transmission and distribution) involving private participation that have reached financial closure and serve the public. It excludes small projects and movable assets (e.g., windmills) as well as divestitures and merchant projects. The types of projects covered include management and lease contracts, operations and management contracts with major capital expenditure, and greenfield projects where new facilities are built and operated by private entities or joint ventures. Investment commitments consist of both investments in new or upgraded facilities and investments in government assets, such as acquiring state-owned enterprises or rights to provide services. Data are compiled from the World Bank’s Private Participation in Infrastructure (PPI) Project Database, which tracks over 6,400 projects in 139 developing economies since 1984. The figures are reported in current U.S. dollars and are used to analyze the scale and role of private sector participation in energy infrastructure.
